Our Story

From an inclusive school philosophy to a purpose-built learning space — the story of how ICHK Summits came to be.

Our Roots

Built on ICHK Secondary's inclusive and innovative philosophy.

An Inclusive Vision
of Education

ICHK Secondary is committed to an inclusive vision of education. From our very beginnings, we have provided support for young people who find mainstream education a challenge. We have designed a structured yet flexible curriculum that welcomes exploration, inclusion, and opportunity for all students.

We are very proud of our culture of inclusion and acceptance, and the work we do with students with diverse learning needs. Our commitment is to offer opportunities to all children, whatever their learning profiles, in the belief that everyone should be offered a well-rounded, aspirational, and growth-oriented education.

Inclusion

Re-imagining inclusion for young people with additional needs.

The +1 Centre
Opened in 2020

To augment and extend this commitment, we opened the +1 Centre in 2020. Situated in a quiet area of our campus, it was designed to help re-imagine inclusion for young people with additional needs, proving that with the right environment, embedded in the right culture, every student can flourish in ways that make a difference and matter.

The Centre provides a uniquely enriching school experience. A team of special educational needs teachers and learning support assistants deliver a modified learning programme which includes elements of ICHK's award-winning Curriculum X, supplemented by ASDAN courses. Within an environment of safety, trust, growth, mutual understanding and respect, students are welcomed, supported and enabled to flourish.

Milestones

The +1 Centre has gone from strength to strength as ICHK's reputation as an innovative, progressive school has grown.

The Next Chapter

From school to adulthood — bridging the gap.

The birth of
ICHK Summits

We work tirelessly to improve provision, and as the first cohort of students move towards graduating from the +1 Centre, we have become acutely aware of the need to provide more post-secondary learning opportunities for young people with diverse needs. With this in mind, the idea for ICHK Summits was born.

Using the same considered approach we took in designing the +1 Centre, the learning space at ICHK Summits will be flexible and dynamic, responsive to the needs of the instructors and students. It will not be laid out in a school classroom format, but will be inspired by co-working spaces and the flexible learning environments commonly found in universities.

The facilities will provide an enriched learning environment that supports a broader and more innovative curriculum.

Our Vision

Growth, resilience, and a fulfilling life.

Building confidence
and autonomy

Our goal is that our learners become confident in new and unfamiliar settings, build both mental and physical strength, resilience, collaborative skills, and a feeling of self-worth and achievement. The range of opportunities available to them will increase the possibilities for developing talents and strengths, as they progress towards adulthood and autonomous living.

ICHK Summits will prepare learners for a productive and fulfilling life in a vibrant, caring environment, dedicated to growth and acceptance. It is the next chapter in our journey towards delivering the best possible learning experience for students with diverse learning needs.
